November Update & News

Hello everyone! With autumn in full swing and winter just around the corner, we wanted to take the time and share a small progress update.

Since the demo release in May, we have been working behind the scenes on a full build of The Story of a Morning. While we intended to release the visual novel on Ren’py, we quickly discovered that it could not support some of the features we planned to implement. Trying to work around these limitations was frustrating to say the least, and quickly led to burnout and fatigue. After some deliberation, the decision was made to port the game to an engine with fewer limitations.

Our final choice: Godot!

Future builds of The Story of a Morning will be built using the Godot engine and Dialogic 2. This switch is beneficial for a number of reasons. Several features already implemented in Ren’py—such as sound design—function better in Godot. In addition, the engine’s GUI provides more creative freedom and less hassle on the development end. Porting the game also allows us to learn how to use the Godot engine, something that Tryph is especially interested in. To summarize: to us, the benefits of porting the game to Godot far outweigh the extra time it will take to learn a new engine.

Going forward, our plan is to rerelease the demo in the new engine. This will allow players to see and test the new functionality for themselves, as well as offer a clearer picture of what to expect from the final game. In addition, we will be releasing a Latin American Spanish translation of the demo, translated by (insert hyperlink).

We hope that you will continue to support us as we work hard to bring you the full version of The Story of a Morning. Thank you!
